Singing gardener rocks out with his plants and sheds
A garden designer and music fan has given a new definition to the term 'rock garden' – by playing his plants Led Zeppelin to help them grow more.
Mark Gregory used the British rock legends' classic back catalogue to inspire his exhibits for The Children's Society ahead of this year's Chelsea Flower Show.
Blasting out songs such as Whole Lotta Love and Stairway To Heaven in his greenhouse pleased the plants so much that it helped them blossom, he claimed.
'Our plants are doing really well – Led Zeppelin is definitely helping out,' he said.
'It is possible the vibrations made them feel better. They turned out fantastic.
'It was like having my own little rock concert – the acoustics in a greenhouse are quite good.'
The 48-year-old from Virginia Water, Surrey, has designed ferns, sedums and heuchera plants in a series of 'living walls' for the show, which begins tomorrow and finishes on Saturday.
It is the 20th consecutive year he is competing.
However, the Chelsea set may be relieved to learn that he will not be pumping out any Led Zep tracks once the competition begins.
